Sweepmate Launches Pool-Based Sports Prediction Platform

Sweepmate has launched a new real-money, pool-based gaming platform in the UK, combining elements of sweepstakes, fantasy sports and trading to create an alternative way for fans to engage with sporting events. The app, available on iOS and Android, debuts with Premier League-focused gameplay and plans to expand to additional sports in the coming months.

The platform resets the Premier League table every week, ranking teams using a scoring system based on goal difference, goals scored, shots on and off target and disciplinary records. Live data is supplied by Sportradar. Sweepmate operates under a UK Gambling Commission licence and provides the environment for pool-based play without acting as a bookmaker or taking positions on outcomes.

Prize pools are generated from player entries and distributed according to the platform’s weekly standings, with 50 percent of the pool awarded to first place, 20 percent to fourth and 30 percent to last. Players are also able to trade teams within a weekly cycle through a feature known as “Sweeping”.

Match outcomes and late-game events have had a notable influence on weekly results, with most rounds decided after the 80th minute and some determined by the final match of the gameweek. Sweepmate reports that nine different teams have finished first and fourth since the season began, while eight have finished last, reflecting the volatility created by its scoring framework. Historical data also shows divergence from official league performance; for example, Tottenham recorded the joint-most first-place finishes on Sweepmate last season despite ending 17th in the Premier League.

Sweepmate was founded by Lloyd Bidder and Johnny Barnes and is being formally launched ahead of the upcoming Premier League fixtures.

Barnes said: “The ambition is to fill the void that Draftkings have left with a novel, original game. The format can apply across almost any sports and entertainment event – from the Euros to Eurovision.

“Sweepmate is simple: pick three teams and if they finish first, fourth or last then you win. No new teams are minted 90 minutes before kick-off so there’s a great scarcity value and you can buy or sell teams during the gameweek.

“Sweepmate is not a bookie as we don’t set odds or take a position. Because we’re a pool-based game, we want people to win and we try to provide as much information as possible to players. We pride ourselves on customer service and offer free weekly preview and review shows as well as a complimentary concierge service.

“Our goal is to create a product that keeps fans engaged right across the weekend, whether their favourite club is winning or not. It’s about adding an extra layer of excitement to the Premier League and giving players a reason to stay invested in every result.”
