BetMGM Premier League Darts Returns in Newcastle

BetMGM has marked the return of the Premier League Darts to Newcastle, with the opening night of the 16-week league event taking place at the city’s Utilita Arena. The activation forms part of BetMGM’s wider sports sponsorship and brand visibility strategy within the igaming and sports betting sector.

Ahead of Thursday’s opening night, a three-metre golden dart installation was placed near the Tyne Bridge, with all eight competitors in this year’s Premier League lineup present for the launch, including reigning champion Luke Humphries, who appeared alongside the tournament trophy. The Newcastle stop represents the competition’s first night of action before the league continues across multiple UK and European cities.

The Premier League Darts features a total prize fund of £1.25m and runs from February to May, with weekly league-format nights followed by play-offs to determine the overall winner. The event is organised by Professional Darts Corporation and is invitation-only, bringing together a selected group of elite players for a touring league competition.

For the second consecutive year, BetMGM will award any player who hits a nine-darter during the tournament with a set of 18-carat gold darts valued at £30,000. The incentive was triggered five times during the 2025 edition, resulting in £150,000 worth of prizes being distributed. The initiative forms part of BetMGM’s on-site and broadcast-facing activations linked to its title sponsorship of the tournament.

This year’s field includes Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, Gian van Veen, Michael van Gerwen, Jonny Clayton, Stephen Bunting, Josh Rock and Gerwyn Price. The format gives fans repeated opportunities to see leading players compete against each other across multiple weeks, reinforcing the Premier League Darts’ position as one of the PDC’s flagship properties.

For BetMGM, the partnership aligns with broader efforts by igaming operators to associate their brands with high-profile sports properties and live events, using experiential marketing and sponsorship-led activations to increase visibility in regulated markets.

2025 BetMGM Premier League Darts winner, Luke Humphries, said: “Newcastle is a really fun place to come for the darts and we’re all excited to get the 2026 BetMGM Premier League Darts campaign underway.

“Seeing BetMGM’s giant dart on the Tyne today with the iconic bridge behind us has set the scene perfectly and I can’t wait to defend the title I won last year, particularly with BetMGM’s 18ct gold darts up for grabs again!”

BetMGM’s Brand Director, Dan Towse, said: “The opening night of the BetMGM Premier League Darts is unique, and we wanted to help build the anticipation this year with an eye-catching display at one of Newcastle’s most iconic locations.

“Our giant golden dart made a splash in Cardiff a couple of years ago and today’s event in Newcastle’s city centre has made us the talk of the town! The players all seem really excited to have the BetMGM Premier League Darts back, especially with our 18ct gold darts again on offer for any nine-darter. Today’s stunt sets the tone for the energy and entertainment fans can expect from BetMGM throughout the Premier League Darts season.”

PDC Head of Commercial, Adam Perfect, said: “The Premier League has a long and special relationship with Newcastle, and launching this year’s event with BetMGM’s giant dart on the banks of the River Tyne is a fantastic way to celebrate that. Our players love coming here, the atmosphere at the Utilita Arena is always electric, and this visual moment on the river really underlines how big the BetMGM Premier League Darts has become.”
